2nd International and technical conference “Light in Museum”, postponed due to COVID 19 in 2020, will be held on April 18–20, 2022 in St. Petersburg. This decision was made by the conference organizers - the State Hermitage Museum, the Scientific and Technical Council of the Lighting Industry Association NTS «Svetotekhnika», and VNISI (the Russian Lighting Research Institute named after S.I. Vavilov).
The focus is on topical issues of the museum lighting environment: the influence of light on the safety of museum objects and their perception, quality control and safety of lighting equipment in museums, the use of intelligent technologies in lighting, updating industry normative documents. Representatives of the museum and lighting community, invited Russian and foreign experts in the field of museum lighting will make presentations at the conference.
The outcome of the 1st Conference in 2018 was the “Memorandum of scientific -technical cooperation in the field of Museum lighting”, between museum and lighting communities, the main objectives of which were to conduct research into the impact of artificial light on museum objects, develop a modern regulatory framework, ensure quality and safety control of lighting in museums and introduce energy-efficient light sources for lighting museum expositions.
It was the first large-scale scientific event in Russia, which gathered more than 230 representatives of the lighting industry, the museum community, authorities, educational and public organizations and the media. The conference heard 26 reports from the museum and lighting communities, including 15 reports by foreign experts.
Participation in “Light in Museum” conference is free. Online registration will be open soon. The conference program, which is currently being formed, includes plenary and sectional meetings, as well as a number of discussion platforms and roundtables on pressing issues of museum lighting.
