New format of the CIE events

So far 2020 has not been an easy year for organizers of in-person events, CIE being no exception to this. CIE has planned for this year three events, of whichtwo have now been taken online. The events that have been taken online both includeda symposium and tutorials the symposium contents of these events have been cancelled, but the tutorial portions of these events will go ahead online.

The format of the CIE online tutorials will consist of pre-recorded tutorial presentations and live online question and answer (Q&A) sessions. The pre-recorded presentations will be made available more than one week in advance of the live Q&A sessions. There will be an opportunity to send in questions ahead of the Q&A sessions along with, time permitting, live questions.

In the sections below youwill find the currently avialable information for the three CIE events for 2020.

CIE Tutorials onColorimtery and Visual Appearance

This CIE online event is the replacement of the 5th CIE Expert Symposium on Colour and Visual Appearance thatalso had a tutorial and workshop day. For those of you who previouslyregistered for the tutorial and workshop day part of this earlier advertised event your registrationis still valid for thenew online CIE Tutorials on Colorimetry and Visual Appearance.

Organizers hope that this new online event will be a great opportunity to learnmore about the CIE work on colorimetry and visual appearance. The topics of the tutorials are:

  • CIE Colorimetry,
  • 3D Printing,
  • Measurement of Bidirectional Reflectance Distribution Function (BRDF),
  • Measurement of Sparkle
A few points to note about the format of the event:
  • Access to the recordings of the tutorials will be available fromFriday, July 17,to those who have registered forthe event.
  • Questions may be submitted to the tutorial teams beforeFriday, July 24, using a survey that will be provided for this purpose.
  • The Q&Asessions will be live online (16:00 to 18:00 Hong Kong Time):
    • July 28for the Colorimetry and 3D tutorials, and
    • July 29for the BRDF and Sparkle tutorials.
  • At the Q&A sessions thequestions submitted will be replied toand, time willing, individual livequestions may be given.
In addition to receiving the links to the tutorial presentations and the tutorial notes, those registered for the event will have the opportunity to purchase a secure PDF of one ofthree key CIE publications on colorimetrywith a discount of ~ 75 %.

CIE/ICNIRP Online Tutorial on the Measurement of Optical Radiation and its Effects on Photobiological Systems

The tentative contents of thie CIE/ICNIRP tutorial can be found on thewebpagefor this event.

The planning for this event is still in progress but we can tell you that the prerecorded presentationswill be made available from August 18, with the Q&A Sessions being held on Augst 26 - 27, possibly from 15:00 CEST.

It is expected that registration for the event will open towards the end of April. Again we ask you to keep an eye on the CIE website for updates.

CIE Workshop on the Calculation and Measurement of Obtrusive Lighting

This workshop has been postponed to November 12 - 13, 2020 but it is still being held in Ostrava, Czech Republic.

Registrationis open for this event as is theabstract submission systemfor poster papers to be presented at the workshop.
